For Patients

We specialize in world leading supermicrosurgery techniques to repair complex body defects and injuries using operating microscopes to perform repair of superfine nerves and blood vessels less than 1 mm in size. We welcome both local and foreign visitors and offer multilingual consultations ( English and other languages) to guide you through treatment with the goal of providing the best possible return of both body function and aesthetic appearance.

Specialized Treatments

  • Lymphedema

    We perform minimally invasive lymphaticovenular anastomoses (LVA) using supermicrosurgery to connect lymphatics and veins through a 1cm to 2cm skin incision, as well as vascularized lymph node transfers to provide improved outcomes. Our dedicated lymphedema care team will also guide you through rehabilitation and non-surgical therapy.

  • Head and neck reconstruction

    We provide optimal functional and aesthetic results with the use of complex, composite and chimeric flap reconstruction techniques such as ALT flaps / free jejunal flaps / SCIP flaps.

  • Breast reconstruction

    We perform comprehensive unilateral and bilateral breast reconstruction using implants or microsurgical free tissue transfers including DIEP flaps, PAP flaps and TUG flaps.

  • Facial paralysis/palsy

    We perform all aspects of facial reanimation, cross face nerve grafts / free functional flaps / static sling reconstruction, vascularized nerve flaps.

  • Trauma

    (finger and limb amputations, degloving soft tissue injuries, and other injuries) We perform finger-tip and limb replantation / Toe-to-hand transfers / Immediate reconstruction with super-thin pure skin perforator flaps.

  • Vascular malformations

    (Arteriovenous malformations, venous malformations, lymphatic malformations and others) We provide surgical removal by excision and reconstruction of complex cases as well as Embolo-Sclerotherapy.

  • Reconstruction of the eye, eyelid, nose and correction of ptosis.

  • Congenital hand and foot anomalies reconstruction.

  • Microtia

    We perform otoplasty with rib cartilage / Pure skin perforator flap.

Supermicrosurgery is a specialized microsurgery technique of reconstructing small blood vessels, lymphatics and single nerve fascicles less than 0.3 to 0.8 mm in diameter. The technique was first established in Japan in the 1980s and is increasingly being utilized worldwide increasing the success rate of several procedures like fingertip replantation, vascularized toenail transfer, vascularized distal interphalangeal joint transfer, toe-to-hand transfer, pure skin perforator flaps and lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA).

Foreign medical students, medical doctors and scientists are welcome for elective attachments, clinical fellowships, research fellowships and postgraduate study programs. We offer a supermicrosuregry training program that will help you master the skills necessary for the completion of anastomoses in vessels 0.3 to 0.8 mm. Suitably qualified foreign doctors who are interested in clinical fellowships/training can obtain a temporal practicing license from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and participate in the departmental clinical activities. Our Research

Our clinical research focuses on developing new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for the management of lymphedema and other vascular malformations while our basic science research is focused on neurovascular repair and regeneration using squid, newt and mouse models.

Newts have the extraordinary ability to regenerate multiple body parts and organs without any scarring following injury through nerve dependent epimorphic regeneration. This makes them valuable models in plastic surgery research for understanding the physiological and molecular mechanisms of regeneration.

We are currently studying neurovascular repair by supermicrosurgical anastomosis and optimized axonal fusion techniques for immediate restoration of nerve function and prevention of Wallerian degeneration. We welcome both clinicians and basic scientists who are interested in our research to join our PhD program.
